In September 2013, Otto Orf and a team of soccer and futsal professionals opened the first public access, innercity futsal court in the state of Ohio. The Lane Field project took 3 years of fundraising and countless hours of volunteer labor but the court is now open and is a true gem for use by all residents in the heart of Akron, Ohio.
Futsal is the only version of indoor soccer played around the world. A fast paced game, futsal is played on a hard court, indoor or outdoors, by 4 players and a goalkeeper and is the choice training method for the development of soccer playing youth around the world.
The Lane Field court has provided the opportunity for local children interested in the game of soccer to play whenever they want. The distribution of soccer balls, futsal balls and soccer shoes through our clinics and camps is helping to equip these children with everything they need to have fun and be successful at the game.
The Lane Field dedication was attended by the United States Futsal National Team coach Keith Tozer, US Futsal National Team and former Cleveland Crunch and Force soccer players players PJ Johns, John Ball and Otto Orf, local athletic director coach Eric Spooney, and many of the volunteers who helped make the court a reality.
